Cross Country – Valeria Salazar and Jessenia Diaz

Coach’s Perspective

The cross country coach is Coach Pacheco. He did cross country in high school for all four years. This is Coach Pacheco’s 13th year coaching cross country. In these thirteen years he has won three valley champion rings, and he responded “Yes, most definitely yes” when asked if this year they will achieve their fourth ring.

The team is running and practicing hard to achieve this ring. Their practices can be anywhere from three to two hours and they can run up to thirteen miles a day. Pacheco thinks this sport is different from the rest since in cross country the only person they’re competing against is themselves and it’s not a popularity sport like football or baseball. So the runners are just doing it for themselves and because they enjoy it, not to mention that it is a hard sport so it takes a special kid to do it.

There are several runners that are multiple sports athletes. Coach Pacheco in this case tries communicating with the athlete, their parents, and the other coaches to guarantee success. In other news, Coach Pacheco hopes that Tom Hanks comes to homecoming since all the kids are working hard and are getting noticed.
